8/12/2007 - finally time for Britain to get back to work

Mary:
January 5th, 2007

We already knew we were becoming a nation of couch-potatoes and telly-addicts. Now, it seems, we’ve been too lazy to drag our fat backsides into the office after the New Year celebrations, with record numbers of Britons choosing to extend their Christmas break until January 8th. Even those offices that were functioning reported a festive atmosphere, with many supervisors still away.

Well, good luck to’em, I say – how better to counteract all those reports of overworked, overstressed Britain than by taking some time off to recharge the batteries, especially given that we already work the longest hours in Europe. It’s cold, it’s dark and 2007 doesn’t have a whole lot going for it yet – why not stay in bed. And after all, we’re taking our cue from the politicians – Parliament has been in recess this week ready to commence on January 8th.
Enjoy a leisurely start to the year
