Stalking

gun.jpgThe inquest into the death of Clare Bernal who was shot dead by an obsessive former boyfriend has again brought the crime of stalking into the news. More than 1 in 10 people in the UK have been stalked according to a report in the British Journal of Psychiatry. 91% of victims are women and the majority have been in relationships with their stalkers. Victims are often left with lasting psychological damage and yet many people fail to take it seriously. After several tragic cases where the police failed to take appropriate action they seem to be putting more resources into tackling the crime and Clare Bernal had actually been assigned her own liaison officer. Sadly even this was not enough to prevent her death.
