Seroxat Scare

Panorama last night made alarming viewing. When you take your depressed teenager to the GP you do not expect them to be prescribed a drug that will make them suicidal and yet this is what has been happening with Seroxat, according to the programme. During drug trials Seroxat proved no better than a placebo and in fact caused self-harming, aggression and suicidal thoughts. It was not licensed for use by under 18s but was extensively prescribed by doctors “off-label”. It is alleged that the manufacturers, Glaxo Smith Kline, knew of the problem but suppressed the information. Perhaps it is time to legislate against drug trials being carried out by companies who have to maximise profits for their share holders and are therefore tempted to bury the bad news because of this conflict of interest.

You can read more about the dangers of Seroxat on my blog at http://fiddaman.blogspot.com/. You will see through the various articles posted on there that the MHRA have known for some considerable time that Seroxat is not only dangerous in the children population but also the adult poulation too

I was placed on seroxat at 18 years old by a doctor.Yes i was feeling down, i had been sexually assaulted and was left homeless by my parents.I went to the doctor for help, when he prescribed me anti-depressents,I niavely assumed my outlook on life would improve.LIttle did I know that the after affects of Seroxat would leave me mentally screwed up for years(I have unsightly scars on my wrists to prove it).The doctor that used me as a guinea pig is still practicing at my local surgery, although to this day(12 years later) I still refuse to see him.So here I am,two beautiful daughters later, with a partner who doesn’t understand why my arms are disfigured, wondering why that bastard of a doctor used me as an experiment.I trusted the medical profession and when I needed them the most, they used me and failed to help me.My eldest is now asking what the marks on my arms are.I’m afraid the word “SEROXAT” doesn’t mean anything to an 8 year old. Thanks for fucking up my life G.S.K
