Seat Belt Safety

Seat belt laws were first introduced over 20 years ago but a staggering 1 in 10 front seat passengers and drivers and 4 in 10 rear seat drivers still don’t bother wearing one. Tragically Francesca Lee-Platt learned the hard way that the law is there for a reason. She was only 18 when, despite repeated pleas from her mother to wear a seat belt, she chose not to and was killed after being thrown from a car in a head-on collision. Ironically she had already been fined for not belting up but only 6 hours after being stopped by the police she was dead. It is thought that the seat belt laws save 2000 lives a year - sadly Francesca’s was not one of them.

  1. John Stevens Says:

Francesca died as a result of a her so called “best friend” taking a wrong turn, that was clearly signposted “no right turn.” Would she have survived if wearing a seatbelt who knows? she would have survived if her best friend DIDN’T fail to comply with the lwas of the roads. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. RIP FRANCESCA
