Travel agent pricing is dishonest

High-street travel agent and tour operator, Thomson, has been misleading customers about the price of its holidays. Branches displayed £99 holiday deals in their windows, luring customers in who subsequently found that no such deal was available. A BBC Three investigation revealed these facts just as Thomson was attacking rival agents for not including fuel surcharges in their advertised prices. Something Thomson regarded as “dishonest pricing”. Ooops. The ball seems to be firmly back in Thomson’s court. Sadly, it’s not a practise confined to this company. Travel agent friends of mine have often spluttered in disbelief after seeing an advert placed by their own company in a weekend glossy or on a website. They have assured me that the quoted fare was certainly not available but merely a way of getting potential customers to pick up the phone.
